About me!

Hi! I’m Abi - I grew up in the New Forest, surrounded by some of the best biodiversity in the UK! I’ve always been so fond of all critters (I used to be OBSESSED with worms as a child)

a few years ago I found a passed away bee on my doorstep, I expected it to disappear & was shocked when I noticed it hadn’t visibly rotted at all! it still looked perfect after weeks!

I researched HOW this was possible & I found it SO fascinating to learn that, if kept in the right conditions, insects can basically preserve themselves!

I started finding bees, beetles & collecting passed away insects to learn preserving & displaying - but was incredibly disappointed to learn that all of the shops online selling unpinned specimens source them from farms where they’re killed for art, so I had to take a few months off whilst I tried to find an alternative.

& luckily, I did! after reaching out to some home breeders of beetles & Lepidoptera & asking if they’d be willing to send me any insects after they pass away naturally I was honoured to receive bundles of incredible species.

they may not be ‘perfect’ - but nothing ever is!

I also raise insects myself, though i very rarely sell them when they pass. it’s not for my art, moreso for the experience of being able to learn about & share such amazing species.

I hope I can share my love of insects with others & even help change peoples minds!
